Franz’ Tagebuch

My name is Franz. I am 35 years old and I live in a small village in Germany. The streets here are quiet, and the houses are old. I also work in the village, so I know many people. This is my diary. I use it to plan my day, and at the end I write down what was good and what I would like to do better.

At seven o’clock I wake up. First I hear the church bell, and outside birds sing. It is still a bit dark, and in the house it is cool. Then I stretch in bed and put my feet on the floor. I am tired, because I went to bed late last night. Still, I get up and think: today I want to stay calm.

At eight o’clock I go to the kitchen and have breakfast. First I put a cup on the table and turn on the light. Normally I do not have much hunger, but I eat something because breakfast is important. That is why I eat a cookie, and I drink a coffee. After that I drink a glass of warm milk. Then I look out of the window and see smoke from the chimneys. So I slowly feel more awake.

At nine o’clock I get ready. First I shower quickly, and then I put on a shirt and a warm jacket. After that I quickly look at my phone and take the keys. I also pack the wallet and a notebook into the backpack. Then I go out of the house and close the door. In the square I say hello to a neighbour and to a woman, and I smile. Finally I go on to work.

At ten o’clock I arrive at work. I work in a small tourist office in the village. First I open the door and turn on the light. Then I turn on the computer and lay the maps out. Soon after that two tourists come in. They ask for a simple walk, so I explain the way slowly. I also show them the square and the street for walking.

At eleven o’clock I keep working, but then there is a problem. I have to print a page, but the printer does not work. At first I am nervous because I do not want to lose time. Then I breathe in deeply and stay calm. After that I check the cable and the paper, and I switch the printer off and on again. After a short time it works. That is why I say: good, and I feel more confident.

At twelve o’clock I take a short break. I go out of the office, and then I go to the café on the square. There I drink a coffee and a glass of water. After that I sit outside for a moment and look at the hills. I see people who talk to each other and a child who plays. Then I write two lines in my diary: Now I am calm. After that I go back to work.
