I plan a route and choose a transport line that gets me close to the main places. When I am not sure, I also check the official city website for timetables and information. This way the choice is simpler, and I do not waste time.

To get around, I use the most practical way, not the “prettiest” one. In the city I take the metro or the tram because they are fast and frequent. If I have to go far, I take the train, so I avoid traffic. When I arrive at the station, I check the board and look for my line.

If I have to change, I get off at the right stop and I wait calmly. With a good ticket and a bit of attention, public transport becomes easy. Sometimes I go by plane: I arrive early at the airport, I check in, and I check the gate. I always have the ticket with me and, when it is needed, also the pass for public transport in the city.

I put my suitcase on the belt and I keep a small bag with the important things. In the backpack I keep documents, water, and a sweater because it is cold on the plane. When I land, I pick up the luggage and I look for the fastest way to arrive in the city centre. If I am tired, I take a taxi without thinking about it too much.

If I travel by sea, I first check the port and the departure times. Sometimes I take a big ship, other times a smaller boat; it depends on the route. If I have to reach an island, the boat is often the most comfortable choice, especially to arrive in a village by the sea.

I like to watch the sea and think that, even within the same nation, the experience can change a lot. Italy is part of a continent full of nearby cultures, and borders tell different stories. When I return, I take home not only photos, but also new habits.

For me, travelling also means understanding how people live in every place. In a big nation, the capital has a special energy, but small towns also have character. Every nation has different rules, and every border is felt, even when you do not see it.
