Prima lezione alla scuola di italiano

It is Monday morning in a small language school in Bologna. The classroom is bright and simple. There is a whiteboard, ten chairs, and a big window. Outside, the street is quiet.

Inside, the students are a bit nervous. It is their first Italian lesson. They look at each other, and they do not really know what to say.

The teacher, Maria, enters the classroom with a smile. “Good morning!” she says. “Welcome to our Italian course.” Then she adds, looking at the students with a big smile: “From now on, we speak only Italian.”

“Today we start with introductions,” Maria explains. “We go around the classroom, one at a time. Very simple.” She looks at the first student, a young woman with dark hair. “Do you want to start? Please, introduce yourself,” Maria asks.

“Yes,” says the woman. “My name is Anna. I am from Poland. I am twenty-seven years old. I work as a nurse. I speak Polish and English. I am learning Italian because I love Italian films.”

“Perfect, thank you,” says Maria. She points to the next student, a tall man.

“My name is David,” he says. “I am from Canada. I am thirty years old. I am a software developer. I speak English and a little French. I am learning Italian because my girlfriend is Italian.”
